The Design process is a core element within this project that enables the various research areas to align around a central set of goals, identify the parameters of work, as well as opportunities for solutions, then prioritize and strategize ways to meet those goals. Design is primed for the facilitation of this type of collaborative project that requires both shared expertise as well as specialization to facilitate iterative thinking, and adaptive and flexible problem solving. The STEAM Tree will need to be functional, safe, and efficient and work in in discrete harmony as unified aesthetic installation to meet the demands of this project. For the emerging Industrial Design program to have this research ongoing and accessible to students in new courses presents a significant real world model of design in practice working to solve global problems
